Schiphol’s newly built Airport Operations Center
TL;DR
Airport Operations Plan tool that uses AI to anticipate disruptions, optimize resources, and shift airports from reactive to proactive management.
About
In the high-stakes environment of airport operations, efficiency hinges on seamless coordination across multiple stakeholders. This happens at the Airport Operations Center, a tech-driven hub where airlines, ground handlers, and airport authorities work together to optimize passenger, baggage, and aircraft flows.
The challenge was to design a concept for the Airport Operations Plan (AOP) tool, a real-time collaborative platform enhancing efficiency, resource allocation, and crisis response in the critical week leading up to operations. By leveraging AI and demand-capacity balancing, the tool anticipated and mitigated disruptions before they occurred. With predictive analytics, dynamic scenario planning, and real-time data sharing, it shifted operations from reactive firefighting to proactive decision-making, ensuring smoother, more resilient airport management.
Highlights
☑️ Leadership sign-off to begin development based on the concept of solving a previously unsolvable use case nicknamed “Summer Storm.”
